UNIQ Voice

One of my favourite parts of my job at UNIQ Magazine SA is meeting fascinating Queer individuals. Many blow me away with their passions, talents, and personal journeys. But mostly, I am more fascinated by those that advocate for inclusion and visibility of the LGBTQI+ community. For the past five issues, these unique individuals have graced our covers and shared their contributions towards the promotion of the rights of the minority.
I would like to single out a few individuals that contributed to the meaningful existence and the main purpose of UNIQ Magazine SA – Coach Portia, a driven and multi-talented business coach; Yaya Mavundla, Activist & Publicist; Lerato Khunoana, the Founder and CEO of Lekhuns Projects, a civil construction company; Tha Simelane, a well-known socialite, Actor, Ambassador for Royal AM, and a well-known MC in SA and Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize, Director, Lesbian & Gay Centre.
I have also enjoyed witnessing LGBTQI+ love and commitment through marriages. In this feature we got to learn about different cultures, different tastes and different approaches when planning a wedding.
In this issue, in observation of Disability Rights Awareness Month, enjoy reading about an inspiring woman identifying as butch lesbian, living as a queer with a disability. Further, you will get to meet eight queer people that have taken the creative industry by storm. Some are transgender, while some are still finding themselves.
As always, and especially this time of year, I am so grateful to have the opportunity to meet such interesting, impressive, and dedicated queer people.
Thank you all for your readership and trust in UNIQ Magazine SA to share your stories.
